Dun Laoghaire’s New Ship Berth in Full Use With Navy Cutter (Ex-RNZN) and Survey Vessel Alongside

The newest addition to the Naval Service fleet, the Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV) P70 class cutter LÉ Aoibhinn (P71), was berthed at Dun Laoghaire Harbour on Sunday.

The former Royal New Zealand cutter was alongside the town’s Carlisle Pier, berthed next to Green Rebel’s 56-metre multi-purpose survey vessel Glomar Vantage

As Afloat reported, orange-hulled Glomar Vantage is undertaking geotechnical and geophysical surveys in the Irish Sea on behalf of McMahon Design and Management.

The survey work, scheduled to start on 1 June, will be completed by 1 September, subject to weather and operational constraints.

The geotechnical and geophysical surveys will involve deploying towed equipment from the survey vessel. The surveys will follow three cable routes — two roughly from Dublin to North Wales, and one from Wexford to South Wales.
