Invercargill Airport chief executive Nigel Finnerty has announced he will be stepping down after six years in the role.
Finnerty would continue as the chief executive officer until August 19, but said he had made the hard decision to leave “after successfully leading the airport through a time of significant growth and development”.
He has no immediate plans for the future yet.
“I’m looking forward to spending some time with family and friends before moving on to my next challenge,” he said.

Finnerty was proud of his achievements while running the airport – particularly setting up a new terminal and introducing the Invercargill to Auckland jet service, he said.
Invercargill Airport Limited board chair Grant Lilly said Finnerty had made a significant impact on the growth and development of the business.
“The board is sorry to see him go as we’ve appreciated Nigel’s focus, commitment and leadership through the last six years,” he said.
Lilly praised Finnerty for his leadership throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and wished him well for the future, on behalf of the board.
Originally from Bluff, Finnerty served in the Royal New Zealand Navy for 20 years.
He also held senior management roles at the New Zealand Aluminium Smelter for 14 years before moving to the airport in April 2016.
